Here's a site showing before/after pictures from Earth Hour 2010 for cities all over the world, where we all (mostly) turned our lights out for an hour at 8:30pm to give some thought to our energy consumption and its impacts. Follow the link above and click the pictures to see it fade from before to after. In many cases you can see the reduction in light pollution reflecting off of clouds.

On a building-by-building analysis of energy use during Earth Hour, you can see there's a real positive impact. There is some skepticism as to whether there's a real impact on energy savings overall. Obviously not everything can be shut down, and lighting makes up only a fraction of our real energy usage. But I think the impact on our thinking might be the most important measure.
