Here's an article worth reading about why 10 million birds die each year in Toronto.

Turn your lights out at night, and especially when you leave the office. It's always been common sense and conservation, but it's more important than we've realized. FLAP has all the gruesome details and happy endings. ENS has an informative write up on the phenomena, fyi.

The city has unveiled a bird-friendly development program. It's only optional, but it's a start. It's got a lot of really cool info and diagrams. Hopefully, bird-friendly architectural practices will become the new aesthetic standard. And hopefully soon. Until then, spread the word and turn your lights off.
