The Landscape Architecture Registration Exam (LARE) is the North American standard set of exams that one must pass to become a fully licensed landscape architect. They are typically written during the first two years of internship after graduation. Some people wait longer, some people get the exams out of the way sooner.

Personally, I waited three years before I started but looking back I think I would have been better off if I'd written them while I was still in school. I was told that much of the exam material would be learnt on the job, but in reality my work would have been improved from my studying for the exams.

The five exams are:
A - Project and Construction Administration (multiple choice)
B - Site Analysis (multiple choice)
C - Planning and Site Design (graphic exam)
D - Structural Considerations and Materials & Methods of Construction (multiple choice)
E - Grading, Drainage and Stormwater Management (graphic exam)

Here are some links and materials that apply to all five parts.

*Remember: this material and these study problems should be fun! If you didn't like reading this stuff and solving these little design and grading problems, then you wouldn't like being a landscape architect, right?
